Q Being Gay & Getting Older
  Feb 19, 2009

Why does it seem that the Gay population is more "youth orientated" than the general public?

A Response from Dr. Kooden

Hi, I am assuming that your reference to gay is actually a question about gay males. If you look at the advertising in these publications, you could say that gay men are more youth focused. Is this an advertising ploy that exists throughout the entire culture and not limited to gay men? I have talked with enough gay and nongay men who are not focused on younger partners to come to the conclusion that this is an issue of males in this culture. Just look at the movies and television to see this reflects a youth culture, regardless of sexual orientation. This is slowly beginning to change as the advertising images are now including people over 50--advertising in gay publications now has to catch up. Talk this over with your friends and see what conclusions you all come to. Harold
