Q Vacations for singles
  May 29, 2009

I am 53 years old and really hate vacationing alone. I would love to meet someone in my age bracket who is single and wants to vacation this summer. I feel very alone: I feel to young for Sage and too old for anything else.

A Response from Dr. Kooden

Hi, Since I do not know where you live, I will give you a generic response as to finding vacation partners. If there is a local LGBT center near you, see what they can offer regarding groups, bulletin boards, activities. Also check out local and national publications. such as "The Advocate" for their ads on cruises and trips for gay men. You could think of placing an ad or trying the internet.

But I sense that it is more important to deal with your sense of isolation and your internalized ageism. Do you really have no friends? SAGE could be a place to meet interesting men of all ages. Is it more important to have someone your own age or someone who shares your interests? Remember, not all friends can travel together successfully. So start thinking about expanding your social network as well as finding a traveling companion. Let me know what happens. Harold
