Q Domestic Patrner(s) Insurance and Pension Benefits
  Jul 1, 2008

My Partner and I have shared life, responsibilities, and such for 36 years. I am 63 livingh on a disability A.I.D.S. related. and a small stipend for home care for my Partner. He is retired Air Force and Civil Service Worket. Supplemental/Secondary Insurances are always double and not the rate as spouse for me. Pensionrights with both the Air Force and the Illinois Pension plan are non-existenet to my understanding. My partner who is highly disabled depends on my care and I depend on his Pensions to sustain our existence if either is jeopardized or vacant the other soon will pass.. Don't ask don't tell should also inclue will not pay? Is there any recourse or lefgislation planned in these areas?

A Response from Dr. Kooden

Hello there, You have asked serious questions and clearly are in a difficult situation. First of all, where are you located? Are you near one of the major cities that have an lgbt community center? If so, please contact them and see what legal services they can refer you to. You could also call Lambda Legal Defense Fund (212 809 8585)and/or the Gay and Lesbian National Hotline (212 989 0999) and hear what they have to say. You could also call the Servicemember's Legal Defense Fund (202 328 3244) and see if they know of any pending legislation. Good luck, Harold
