Experience and Background

TOM SCIACCA focuses his practice on (1) Estate Planning (ranging from simple to complex estate planning, estate tax planning, and business succession planning), (2) Estate and Trust Administration, (3) Surrogate's Court proceedings, including litigation in the Surrogate's Court, (4) residential real estate transactions, (5) Guardianship proceedings in the Supreme and Surrogate's Courts (routine and contested), (6) planning for parents with minor or adult disabled children, and (7) Elder Law.

Tom deals with clients from all walks of life, and of various wealth statuses.

Tom is also active in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) and Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HOH) Communities in the City of New York. He is fully familiar with issues facing these communities, and is well-equipped to adequately and appropriately handle these issues.

Tom currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Paralegal Studies at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS), where he teaches Ethics and Trusts & Estates topics to students seeking a diploma in Paralegal Studies.


Seminars

Tom has participated in a variety of seminars dealing with issues including: (1) Wills, Trusts, and Estates, (2) Health Care Proxies and Living Wills, (3) sophisticated estate tax planning, (4) planning for parents with disabled minor and adult children, (5) planning for members of the LGBT community, (6) planning for incapacity using a Durable General Power of Attorney, (7) guardianships for disabled children and adults, and (8) various Elder Law topics, including Medicaid and sheltering one's assets against long-term care costs.

Tom is available to participate in seminars upon request.


Languages

In addition to English, Tom is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), and has conducted individual client interactions and pro bono seminars in ASL.
